Overview of The Royal Trek

The Royal Trek is one of the most famous and easiest treks in the Annapurna region. This trek is especially suitable for beginners and elderly people. The trek has been named the Royal Trek as Britain’s Prince Charles walked it in the 1980s. It’s an excellent trek to do, as it doesn’t entail any particular long walking days, but plenty to see. The route gradually climbs up through the ethnic villages and forests of magnolia and rhododendron. The regions are so unspoiled as to have no tea houses, and we will need to camp. The Royal trek offers panoramic views of the Pokhara Valley and the beautiful Mt Fishtail (Machhapuchhre) as well as the Annapurna range to the north and magnificent lakes surrounded by mountains in the south, Lamjung Himal, Manaslu and Himchuli in the east.

We have accumulated a variety of treks to“ Off The Beaten Tracks” of Nepal with a detailed itinerary below.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu – Welcome to the Land of the Himalayas

Upon your arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu, a representative from Beauty Nepal Adventure will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in a private tourist vehicle. You’ll receive a short briefing about your trip and meet your guide. Take the rest of the day to relax or explore the vibrant streets of Thamel.

After breakfast, we travel to Pokhara, either by a short scenic flight 20 Minutes or a 7-8 hour drive along beautiful river valleys and rolling hills. Pokhara is a peaceful lakeside city, surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and enjoy free time to walk by the lake or explore the local culture.

After lunch, the journey starts with a short drive up to the village of Vijayapur- starting point. The trail starts off in flat rice fields and then climbs through Rakhigaon to Chautara and gradually ascends along a ridgetop taking through Brahmin villages until you reach Kalikasthan, where you will spend the night.  The place offers exquisite views of the mountains and Pokhara city.

The trail starts along a forested ridge, passing Thulokot and then onto Mati Thana. You can stop over for lunch in this village as there are few teashops open. Then the trail starts to gradually ascend to Naudanda, and continues until you reach the Gurung village of Shanklung where you will be spending the night. During the trek we will be walking on the ridge of the mountain which offers a decent view of Annapurna and Lamjung Himal.

The Himalayan skyline changes as the route taken will be shrouded by mountains like Annapurna II, Lamjung Himal, Manasulu and Himalchuli. The trail descends steeply to the south side of the hill, passing by an ancient tree with a chautara (stone platform), several tea shops and a police check post. From there, you will proceed on, following the Royal Trek route and ascending to Chisopani (coldwater) where you will be spending the night. There is a temple located on a high knoll above the village. The place offers splendid views of the mountains in the vicinity.

You will start off by descending a ridge and stone steps which lead you into a small valley. Continuing along the Royal Trek Stream, you will pass through a rice field and then make a final ascent to the ridge that separates Begnas Tal “Lake “and Rupa Tal “Lake “. The route to the Begnas Bazaar and onto Pokhara is a wide route that is frequently used by local people. After lunch, drive to Pokhara.

Take a well-deserved rest day in Pokhara. You can spend the day relaxing by Phewa Lake, boating, getting a massage, shopping for souvenirs, or optionally visiting places like the Peace Pagoda, Davis Falls, or the International Mountain Museum and an early morning hike to Sarangkot viewpoint for sunrise.

After breakfast, we return to Kathmandu either by scenic flight or by road. Once in Kathmandu, you’ll be transferred to your hotel. Enjoy your last evening in Nepal with time for final shopping or simply relaxing.
