Overview of Annapurna Base Camp Trek

The 8 Days Annapurna Base Camp Trek is a journey of heart and soul – where every sunrise feels magical, and every step connects you closer to the Himalayas.

Make a rendezvous with one of the globally popular treks – The Annapurna Base Camp Trek.  Mt. Annapurna, which rises at 8091m, is the 10th highest mountain in the world.  The Annapurna region lies in the foothills of Mt. Annapurna in north-central Nepal stretches along the Lamjung Himal from the Kali Gandaki in the west to the Marshyangdi in the east. The trek to Annapurna Base Camp passes through waterfalls, villages, farmlands, rhododendron forests, and vistas invigorates your soul.  Since the trek starts from a mere height of around 800 meters, the acclimatization process is gradual, and you will reach a high altitude of over 4, 000 meters. Also, you will pass through a diverse geographical and cultural variation with an amazing range of flora and fauna in between.  We are sure that your heart will push you to start the trek – just imagine the company of the highest mountains on the earth and the magnificence of the sunrise over the snow-capped Himalayas!

The Annapurna Base Camp trek, like others in the Annapurna region, takes off from the lake city of Pokhara. The actual walk begins at Naya Pul, which can be reached after a short drive from Pokhara. While hiking to Ghandruk, marvel at colorful orchids and clear views of the splendid high mountains, including the two-eight-thousand – Mt. Annapurna (8091 m) and Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m). At Ghandruk, enjoy the ethnic hospitality along with the cultural magnificence of the Gurung Museum. Trek further via MBC and we finally reach ABC. Return to the same route, passing through the Rhododendron forest that blooms with red flowers during the springtime, descend to Birethanti, passing by waterfalls and a few small villages and settlements. Walk to Naya Pul and then drive to Pokhara, which announces the end of this marvelous trek.

At Beauty Nepal Adventure, we believe this trek is not just about walking to a base camp – it is about living a lifetime memory where nature, culture, and adventure blend into one.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400m / 4,593ft)

Your adventure begins as soon as you land at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu. A friendly representative from Beauty Nepal Adventure will be waiting at the arrival gate, holding a placard with your name. After a warm welcome with a traditional Nepali gesture, you will be transferred to your hotel in a private vehicle.Over night in Kathmandu.

After breakfast, we set off for Pokhara, Nepal’s second-largest and most beautiful city. Guests can choose a 20–25 minute scenic flight, offering aerial views of Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Manaslu, and Annapurna ranges, or take a 7–8 hour overland drive through winding hillsides, river valleys, and terraced farms.

On arrival in Pokhara, you will immediately feel the calm and charm of this lake city. The reflection of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail, 6,997m) on Phewa Lake is a sight to behold. Pokhara is also the main gateway for Annapurna treks, and you can enjoy an easy evening stroll by the lakeside. Overnight at a hotel in Pokhara.

After breakfast in Pokhara, we drive (1.5 hrs) to Nayapul where our trek begins. We follow the Modi Khola River, passing through Sauli Bazaar and terraced fields, before ascending towards the beautiful Gurung village of Ghandruk. Here, the views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli are simply stunning. Overnight at a cozy teahouse.

Today’s trail takes us through forested ridges and across streams as we ascend and descend through Kumrong Danda. Chhomrong, a picturesque Gurung village, greets us with its traditional lifestyle and panoramic mountain views. Overnight at the teahouse.

We descend stone steps to cross the Chhomrong Khola. We will be at inhabited foothills on the high steep and wooded slopes of the Himalayas. We cross the suspension bridge then trek up to Sinuwa Danda. The ascent from Sinuwa becomes somewhat flatter. The trail passes through thick and dark arresting rhododendron forest up to Khuldighar. Then the trail passes through deep bamboo and rhododendron forest to the village of Dovan.

The day starts with gentle gradual ascend following the trail above the river through a thick bamboo, oak and rhododendron forests up the side of the canyon. We cross two streams over small bridges. The trail further passes through solitary places. Nature’s wilderness and solitariness give peace to our mind. There is also the possibility of seeing a variety of species of wildlife such as wild pig, deer, and snow leopard. After lunch at Deurali, the trail climbs gently through a river bed and then it rises steeply over the mountain side. There are also avalanche prone areas at a few points on the trail. After about half an hour’s walk from Deurali, we will find ourselves in the middle of a river bed surrounded by giant snow-covered mountains. When the sun rises, the snow on mountains shines and the river valley is filled with warm sun rays. The hike to Machhapuchhre Base Camp is somewhat strenuous but the unfolding views of the majestic Machhapuchre are certainly a rewarding experience. Overnight at Machhapuchhre Base Camp

On the way to Annapurna Base Camp from Machhapuchhre Base Camp, the vegetation disappears. We will encounter snow boulders melting and forming small streams. The path widens as we enter the Sanctuary, follows a stream, and then climbs to a few huts alongside a moraine. Upon arrival at this juncture, we will have sensational views of the near-vertical south face of Annapurna towering above the sanctuary. Annapurna Base Camp sanctuary boasts of a dynamic view without anything impeding panorama of the 360 degrees. The heart inspiring views of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna south, Annapurna I, Hiuchuli and other peaks will be the boon of our hard efforts. Climax of our trip almost ends today! Overnight at Annapurna Base Camp (4130m/13550ft).

At dawn, we relish the magnificent sunrise over the Himalayas from Annapurna Base Camp. Upon our breakfast, we start descending from Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo back through Machhapuchhre Base Camp, Deurali, Dovan and finally reach Bamboo. Heading back down to the valley is much easier than climbing up. We will see the waterfalls that drop down from a high point to the rocks below. We further pass through the forests with great views of Fishtail and Hiunchuli mountains. Overnight at Bamboo.

Upon our retreat from Bamboo, we trek back to Sinuwa and then descend to Lower Chomrong. Then again we ascend on the thousand stony steps taking us to Upper Chomrong. From Chomrong, we take a different route and instead of going to Ghandruk. We further descend to Jhinu Danda. Upon arrival at Jhinu Danda, we get the opportunity to enjoy hot springs lying just a 15-min walk from Jhinu Danda. Overnight at Jhinu Dada. (B, L, D)
