Overview of Annapurna Circuit Trek
The Annapurna Circuit Trek, first opened to adventurous travelers in the mid-1980s, has since become one of Nepal’s most iconic and sought-after trekking experiences. Every year, thousands of trekkers embark on this journey, and it’s easy to see why. From the very first step into this diverse region, you will be captivated by the extraordinary contrast of landscapes, vibrant culture, and the grandeur of the Himalayan peaks. With Beauty Nepal Adventure guiding you, this trek is designed to combine comfort, safety, and an authentic cultural experience.
This 23 -day trek begins from Besisahar. The Marsyangdi Valley region, passing through lush forests, terraced fields, and alongside the roaring Marsyangdi River. The early days of the trek are a gradual ascent through subtropical forests, vibrant rhododendron and cypress woodlands, and terraced farmlands dotted with traditional villages. You will encounter villages such as Pisang and Braga, where centuries-old monasteries and Mani walls reflect the Tibetan-influenced culture of the valley. The trail also winds through peaceful pastures where yaks, horses, and local livestock graze, adding a serene charm to the journey.
Highlights
- Kali Gandaki Gorge: One of the deepest gorges in the world, flanked by towering Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Walking along this gorge, you will feel dwarfed by the majestic 8,000-meter giants surrounding you.
- Tilicho Lake: Known as one of the world’s highest lakes at 4,919 m / 16,138 ft, Tilicho Lake is a shimmering emerald jewel nestled amid snow-capped peaks. Its serene waters and dramatic backdrop provide an unforgettable highlight for photography and reflection.
- Rupse Falls: This cascading waterfall is a breathtaking sight along the trail, representing the raw, untamed beauty of the region.
- Flora and Fauna: The trek passes through oak, bamboo, pine, and cypress forests, where you may spot unique Himalayan wildlife such as langur monkeys, martin deer, and, for the lucky few, elusive snow leopards. Over 100 species of orchids and countless medicinal plants thrive here, showcasing the rich biodiversity of the Annapurna Conservation
- Cultural Insights :The Annapurna Circuit is home to the resilient Sherpa, Gurung, and Thakali communities, whose traditions, beliefs, and lifestyles have remained relatively unchanged for centuries. Along the way, Beauty Nepal Adventure ensures that you have opportunities to engage with locals, explore ancient monasteries, and understand the spiritual significance of sacred sites. The trail passes Tibetan Buddhist villages, Mani walls, chortens, and stupas, reflecting the deep-rooted spiritual heritage of the region.

Day 03: Kathmandu to Besisahar and Trek to Khudi (800m / 2,624ft) – 7-8 hrs
Your journey into the Manaslu and Annapurna regions begins with a scenic drive along winding roads, following the Trishuli River and passing lush countryside, terraced fields, and picturesque villages. Stop briefly at Mugling for refreshments and continue toward Dumre, leaving the main highway to head north toward Besisahar, the gateway to your trek.
From Besisahar, it’s either a short half-hour drive or a one-hour hike along a well-trodden trail to Khudi, a charming village nestled at the foothills of the Manaslu range. Take your first deep breath of mountain air, feel the cool breeze, and enjoy your first encounter with the stunning Himalayan scenery. The village itself offers a glimpse of local life, with simple houses, terraced fields, and warm, welcoming locals.
Overnight: Guesthouse in Khudi
Day 04: Khudi to Sirung (2,200m / 7,216ft) – 6-7 hrs
Your first full trekking day introduces a blend of natural beauty and local culture. The trail crosses suspension bridges, sparkling waterfalls, and meandering paths through rice paddies and subtropical forests. Initially gentle, the climb gradually becomes steeper, revealing closer views of the Manaslu massif and surrounding peaks.
On your way, you will pass Taranche, a traditional Tamang settlement, where villagers often greet trekkers with smiles and curiosity. Upon arrival in Sirung, you will be welcomed to a home-stay, allowing you to experience authentic Nepali culture. The villagers may arrange a cultural program, sharing local dances, songs, and traditions, giving a unique insight into life in the Manaslu region.
Overnight: Home-stay in Sirung
Day 05: Sirung to Chamje (1,410m / 4,626ft) – 5-6 hrs
Today’s trek takes you through amphitheater-shaped rice terraces, vertical cliffs, lush forests, and culturally rich villages, always following the flow of the Marsyangdi River. The first portion to Syange (1,100m) is gentle, allowing you to soak in the natural beauty. From Syange onwards, the trail gradually becomes more challenging as it climbs to Jagat (1,300m), then steeply ascends to Chamje. Along the way, the interplay of river sounds, bird songs, and rustling bamboo adds to the immersive trekking experience.
Overnight: Guesthouse in Chamje
Day 06: Chamje to Dharapani (1,960m / 6,430ft) – 5-6 hrs
Today, you officially enter the Manang region, where the landscape begins to transform with altitude. Pass through fields of corn, barley, and potatoes, interspersed with forests of bamboo and rhododendrons. The village of Tal is a highlight, located on a flat plain beside a sandy riverbank at the base of a dramatic waterfall. Occasionally, the trail may intersect with donkey caravans, providing a glimpse into the traditional transport methods of the region.
Overnight: Guesthouse in Dharapani
Day 07: Dharapani to Chame (2,710m / 8,891ft) – 5-6 hrs
The trek today involves crossing forested ridges, navigating areas affected by landslides, and climbing moderate slopes. Keep your eyes on the horizon as the landscape unfolds spectacular views of Lamjung Himal, Annapurna II, and Annapurna IV (7,525m / 24,688ft). Along the way, small hot springs offer a refreshing pause, allowing tired muscles to recover. Chame, the administrative hub of the area, welcomes you with cozy teahouses and breathtaking views.
Overnight: Guesthouse in Chame
Day 08: Chame to Pisang (3,300m / 10,824ft) – 5-6 hrs
Today’s route is characterized by a steep, narrow trail through dense forests, leading to dramatic cliffs rising 1,500 meters above the Marsyangdi River. As you ascend, dense vegetation gives way to rocky landscapes, revealing majestic Himalayan peaks and a U-shaped valley formed by glacial activity. Crossing multiple suspension bridges, the trail finally leads you to Lower Pisang, where panoramic views of the Manang valley and surrounding peaks create a truly memorable experience.
Overnight: Guesthouse in Pisang
Day 09: Pisang to Manang (3,440m) – 6-7 hrs
You now face two trekking options: the upper route via Geru is recommended by Beauty Nepal Adventure for its superior scenery. This trail provides almost horizontal vistas of snow-capped peaks, giving the feeling of walking alongside the mountains. Views of Annapurna, Pisang Peak, and others captivate the eyes. The dry, cold climate contrasts sharply with the lush lower valleys, emphasizing the diversity of the Himalayan environment. A short stop at Barge Monastery, the largest in Manang, offers cultural insight and spiritual reflection.
Overnight: Guesthouse in Manang
Day 10: Rest and Acclimatization in Manang (3,540m / 11,614ft)
Today is a vital acclimatization day in Manang, an enchanting Himalayan town nestled beneath towering peaks. At this altitude, it is essential not to remain completely idle. Instead, we engage in short but purposeful hikes to higher elevations, which helps our bodies adapt to the thinning air and prepares us for the demanding days ahead. Under the guidance of Beauty Nepal Adventure, we recommend gentle excursions such as visiting Bhojo Gompa or the stunning turquoise waters of Gangapurna Lake. These hikes not only aid in acclimatization but also offer breathtaking mountain views.
Another fascinating option is a short walk to the nearby village of Vraga, where we can visit an ancient monastery and learn about the local lifestyle. Here, trekkers often stop at the Himalayan Rescue Association, where experts provide valuable insights on altitude-related illnesses. This day is less about distance and more about preparation, rest, and gaining knowledge to ensure safety for the higher passes. Overnight stay at Manang. (B, L, D).
Day 11: Manang to Yak Kharka (4,110m / 13,484ft) — 3 to 4 hrs
Leaving Manang behind, our trail crosses a clear mountain stream and ascends towards the village of Tenki, perched above Manang. From here, we steadily climb out of the Marshyangdi Valley and turn northwest into the windswept valley of the Jarsang Khola. The landscape becomes more alpine, with pastures, juniper shrubs, and grazing meadows dotted with yaks and horses.
Along the way, we pass the small settlement of Ghunsa, a cluster of flat-roofed houses clinging to the valley. Beyond Ghunsa, the trail continues through open meadows, crossing a small river on a wooden bridge before reaching an ancient Mani wall that marks spiritual protection for travelers. After a gradual climb, we arrive at Yak Kharka, a high pasture settlement where yaks graze peacefully.
The ascent is moderate but steady, and though today’s walk is short, altitude should never be underestimated. Trekking slowly and maintaining hydration is crucial. Overnight at Yak Kharka.
Day 12: Yak Kharka to Thorong Phedi (4,600m / 15,092ft) — 3 to 4 hrs
Today we trek towards Thorong Phedi, the last settlement before the mighty Thorong La Pass. The trail climbs gently, weaving through rocky paths and sparse meadows before reaching this important base. Thorong Phedi, meaning “foot of the pass,” is a bustling settlement catering to trekkers preparing for the big crossing.
Some adventurers attempt to ascend to High Camp (4,800m) to shorten the next day’s climb, but at Beauty Nepal Adventure, we recommend staying overnight at Thorong Phedi for better acclimatization and safer sleep. The air here is noticeably thinner, and trekkers must conserve energy for tomorrow’s long and demanding day. This stop is all about rest, fueling up, and mentally preparing for the challenge ahead. Overnight at Thorong Phedi.
Day 13: Thorong Phedi to Thorong La Pass (5,416m / 17,764ft) — Muktinath (3,800m / 12,467ft) — 7 to 8 hrs
This is the highlight and most challenging day of the trek. Rising early, we set out before dawn to tackle the world-famous Thorong La Pass, one of the highest trekking passes on Earth. The ascent is steep and demanding, with icy trails and thin air testing our stamina and determination. But with every step, the panorama expands — dazzling views of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu ranges stretch across the horizon.
Reaching the summit of Thorong La (5,416m) is a once-in-a-lifetime achievement. Decorated with colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind, the pass is a sacred place that rewards our effort with unmatched mountain vistas. After spending some time at the top, we begin a long descent towards Muktinath, a revered pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists.
Muktinath is home to the sacred Vishnu Temple and a monastery, symbolizing Nepal’s harmony of faiths. Pilgrims come from far and wide to bathe in the holy waters believed to bring spiritual liberation. Overnight at Muktinath.
Day 14: Muktinath to Kagbeni (2,800m / 9,186ft) — 3 to 4 hrs
From the sacred grounds of Muktinath, we descend into the Kali Gandaki Valley, following trails that lead us to Kagbeni. At 2,800m, Kagbeni is known as the gateway to Upper Mustang, a restricted region rich in Tibetan culture and ancient history. The village itself is a labyrinth of narrow alleyways, stone houses, and a monastery believed to be over 500 years old.
Permits for Upper Mustang are limited and require high government royalties, making Kagbeni a unique blend of local life and adventurous spirit. With its windswept landscapes and views of Nilgiri Peak, Kagbeni is both a cultural and scenic gem. Overnight in Kagbeni.
Day 15: Kagbeni to Marpha (2,670m / 8,760ft) 5- hrs
Today’s trek takes us along the Kali Gandaki River towards Jomsom, the district headquarters of Mustang and home to an airport connecting with Pokhara. The trail is wide and often windswept, surrounded by dramatic barren landscapes. Jomsom also hosts the Mustang Eco Museum, which showcases the natural and cultural heritage of this unique region.
Continuing onward, we reach Marpha, the charming Thakali village famous for its apple orchards. Marpha’s whitewashed houses, stone-paved streets, and neatly kept alleys reflect the rich traditions of the Thakali people. The village is also renowned for producing apple brandy, cider, and other local products. Overnight in Marpha.
Note : – Alternatively, we may conclude the trek in Jomsom and take a scheduled flight back to Pokhara.
Day 16: Marpha to Ghasa (2,010m / 6,594ft) 7-8 hrs
Leaving Marpha, the trail gradually descends along the Kali Gandaki Gorge, recognized as the deepest gorge in the world. Towering above us rise two Himalayan giants — Annapurna I (8,091m) and Dhaulagiri (8,167m), forming a breathtaking natural corridor.
As we trek south, the arid landscape transitions into more fertile valleys. Ghasa, our stop for the night, is a small yet vibrant town known among bird-watchers for its rich diversity of Himalayan species. Overnight at Ghasa.
Day 17: Ghasa to Tatopani (1,190m / 3,904ft) 7- 8 hrs
Descending further, we continue along the Kali Gandaki Valley until we reach Tatopani, which literally means “hot water.” This village is famous for its natural hot springs, where trekkers can relax and rejuvenate tired muscles after long days of walking. The pools, surrounded by nature, offer the perfect way to recover physically and mentally. Overnight at Tatopani.
Day 18: Rest Day at Tatopani — Hot Spring Therapy
Today is reserved for rest and relaxation at Tatopani’s healing hot springs. The mineral-rich waters, naturally heated to around 45–57°C, are believed to cure ailments such as rheumatism, arthritis, back pain, gastritis, skin diseases, and even swelling caused by high altitude. Locals say the springs can host over 300 people at a time, and many pilgrims spend days or weeks bathing here for health benefits. A well-deserved day of recovery before we continue our journey. Overnight at Tatopani.
Note :- As an alternative option, we may conclude the trek at Tatopani and continue onward to Pokhara.
Day 19: Tatopani to Ghorepani (2,850m / 9,350ft) — 8 -9 hrs
Today we begin a long ascent from the hot valleys of Tatopani into the lush forests and terraced fields of mid-hill villages. Passing through Ghara and Sikha, we observe traditional farming lifestyles, stone houses, and terraced farmlands. The trail climbs steadily through oak, magnolia, and rhododendron forests, especially vibrant during spring.
Finally, we reach Ghorepani, a lively village perched high on a ridge. Ghorepani is best known as the base for the famous Poon Hill viewpoint, which we will visit tomorrow at sunrise. Overnight at Ghorepani.
Note :- As an alternative option, we may conclude the trek at Ghodepani and continue onward to Pokhara.
Day 20: Ghodepani to Tadapani (2,710m / 8,891ft) — 6 - 7 hrs
Before dawn, we ascend to Poon Hill (3,210m), one of the most spectacular viewpoints in Nepal. From here, the sunrise reveals a breathtaking panorama of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, bathed in golden light. This is a photographer’s paradise and a memory trekkers cherish for a lifetime.
After returning for breakfast, we continue our trek through dense rhododendron forests, alive with birdlife and occasional mountain views. The path involves both ascents and descents before reaching Tadapani, a peaceful village surrounded by thick forests. Overnight at Tadapani.
Day 21: Tadapani to Ghandruk (1,950m / 6,398ft) 3 - 3.30 hrs
