Overview of Pikey Peak Trek

The Pikey Peak Trek (4,065 m), nestled in the lower Solu-Khumbu region of Nepal, is a perfect blend of adventure, serenity, and cultural immersion. Unlike the crowded Everest trails, this trek offers peaceful paths, jaw-dropping mountain panoramas, and warm encounters with Sherpa communities who live in harmony with the Himalayas.

From the top of Pikey Peak, trekkers enjoy a majestic 360° Himalayan view, stretching from Mount Everest (8,848 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), Makalu (8,463 m), Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Manaslu (8,163 m), all the way to Annapurna and Langtang ranges. Watching the sunrise here is often described by travelers as a spiritual experience.

The trail takes you through dense rhododendron forests, rolling hills, yak pastures, charming Sherpa villages, and centuries-old monasteries. With Beauty Nepal Adventure, you will not only trek through pristine landscapes but also enjoy authentic hospitality, local organic food, and inspiring cultural insights that make this journey unforgettable.

The trek is moderate in difficulty, with 4–7 hours of walking each day, making it accessible to both beginners and experienced trekkers.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400 m)

As soon as you land at Tribhuvan International Airport, a representative from Beauty Nepal Adventure will warmly welcome you. You will then be transferred to your hotel in the vibrant tourist hub of Thamel, where you can rest after your long journey. Depending on your arrival time, you may explore the narrow alleys filled with colorful shops, handicrafts, local tea stalls, and trekking gear stores. In the evening, we will gather for a short briefing about the trek and enjoy a welcome Nepali dinner together. This day is mostly for relaxation and acclimatization to Nepal’s culture and atmosphere.

Today, after breakfast, you will join our experienced cultural city guide for a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu Valley. The tour includes some of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as:

  • Kathmandu Durbar Square – the historic palace square full of temples and old royal courtyards.
  • Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple) – a sacred hilltop shrine offering a panoramic view of the entire Kathmandu city.
  • Boudhanath Stupa – one of the largest stupas in the world and an important Tibetan Buddhist pilgrimage site.

In the afternoon, we return to Thamel where your trekking guide will check your equipment, ensuring you have everything necessary for the journey. Any last-minute items can be rented or purchased easily. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Early morning, we begin with a scenic drive through winding mountain roads, following the Sun Koshi River and passing through terraced fields, traditional villages, and lush green hills. After about 8 hours, we arrive at Dhap Bazaar, the starting point of our trek.

From here, we stretch our legs and begin a 4-hour hike to Jhapre. The trail gradually ascends through villages, farmlands, and pine forests. Jhapre is a small village that offers stunning views of Numbur Himal (6,958 m) and Everest on clear days. The village is also home to a small monastery and many prayer flags fluttering in the wind, adding a spiritual atmosphere. We stay overnight in a local tea house, experiencing Sherpa hospitality for the first time.

After breakfast, the trail climbs steadily through yak pastures, dense rhododendron forests, and small Sherpa settlements. Along the way, we stop at Lhamuje (3,380 m) for lunch. This village is surrounded by wide meadows where yaks and horses graze freely.

The trek continues uphill with occasional flat sections, leading us to Pikey Base Camp (3,600 m). From here, you can already feel the high-altitude environment. The local lodges at the base camp are simple but warm and welcoming. Sherpa families often entertain guests with folk songs and dances, making the evening lively and memorable.

This is the most rewarding day of the trek. Before dawn, we hike about 1 hour to the summit of Pikey Peak (4,065 m). Standing on the top as the first rays of sun touch the Himalayas is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The 360° panorama includes some of the world’s highest peaks: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Annapurna, and Langtang ranges.

The magical view is enhanced by prayer flags fluttering in the wind and the peaceful silence of the mountains. After enjoying this breathtaking moment, we descend back to the base camp for breakfast. Then, the trail leads us down through pine and rhododendron forests, passing herders’ huts and yak grazing pastures until we reach Loding (2,536 m). Overnight in a cozy tea house.

Today’s trek descends gradually and later joins the classic Jiri to Everest Base Camp trail. Along the way, we pass Taktor Village where trekkers heading to Everest often stop. After a few hours, we reach the charming Sherpa settlement of Junbesi, considered one of the most beautiful villages in the Solu region.

In the afternoon, we take a short side trip to Thuptenchholing Monastery, a significant spiritual center where hundreds of monks and nuns live in meditation and prayer. Walking around the monastery, listening to the chants, and observing the monastic life is a deeply enriching cultural experience. Overnight in Junbesi.

After breakfast, we continue along the trail that descends across the Junbesi Khola (river). The route then ascends gradually towards Ringmo Village, which is famous for its apple orchards and locally produced apple brandy, cider, and pies.

From here, the trail climbs towards Taksindu La Pass (3,071 m), where we get incredible views of the Himalayan peaks once again. A short descent brings us to Taksindu (2,931 m), home to another historic monastery. Overnight at a local tea house with a warm Sherpa dinner.

This day’s trail is more relaxed, leading us through pine forests, terraced fields, and small Sherpa villages. After about 4–5 hours, we arrive at Phaplu, a small town with an airport that connects to Kathmandu.

On the way, we stop to visit the Chiwong Monastery, dramatically perched on a hilltop. Built in 1923, this monastery hosts the famous Mani Rimdu festival each year, attracting monks, lamas, and pilgrims from across the region. Overnight in Phaplu.

After breakfast, we drive back to Kathmandu, retracing the winding hilly roads with scenic views of rivers, terraced hills, and rural villages. Upon arrival, we check into our hotel in Thamel. In the evening, we gather for a special farewell dinner hosted by Beauty Nepal Adventure, where we celebrate the successful completion of the trek.

On your final day, our representative will drop you at Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight home or onward journey. You will leave Nepal with unforgettable memories of Pikey Peak Trek and the warm hospitality of Beauty Nepal Adventure.
